About Us

‘CHRISTADELPHIANS’ might sound an unusual name; it simply comes from the Greek words meaning ‘Brothers (and sisters) in Christ’.
In the same way the city of Philadelphia has taken the Greek word for love (philo) to create a name conveying a place of ‘brotherly love’.

We are a worldwide community that has been established for over 150 years, with some 300 groups in the UK alone.

Our membership comprises of individuals who share the same understanding of Bible teaching. Having declared their commitment to following Jesus through baptism, members continue to remember their absent Lord through a weekly memorial, partaking of bread and wine.

We don’t claim any special powers or to have had our own unique revelation from God. We are convinced that the truth of God’s plan and purpose is detailed in the Bible and aim to encourage people to read and discover this for themselves.

We endeavour to keep our worship ‘Bible based’ and try to organise ourselves, as a community, on the same lines of the first century believers. We have no paid clergy or hierarchy to dictate what should be done, or believed, by the members. It is a straightforward faith that we feel makes sense.

Like most people we are saddened by the state of the world, however, our understanding of the Bible gives us real hope that there is a future to look forward to.  This is centred on our firm belief that Jesus will soon return to the earth, as promised, to set up God’s Kingdom.
